Thus, after close examination of Celtic arts and crafts, and also the literature, containing mythological images and plots, it is possible to draw a conclusion that Celtic pantheon is grouped according to the concept of a structural nucleus offered in the given work. To the god of the Clear Sky corresponds with Gallic Teutat
(Irish Nuadha); to the God of the Thunder - Celt Taranis ; to the God of Earth Powers - Gallic Cernunnos/ Hes (Irish Daghda); to the Cultural Hero - Gallic Smertrius/ Ogmios (Irish Oghma); to the Great Goddess - various Gallic deities and Irish Goddess Danu, Brigit, Morrighan. We see division on numerous late deities such as the Cultural Hero (in connection with his intensive development) and especially the Great Goddess (it represents natural consequence of division of her there is no time universal type). From the point of view of socio-historical aspect it is visible, as in epoch of domination of priestly estate of druids role Cernunnos (besides, practically unique Celtic god known in the Gallo-Roman syncretic epoch under an own name and with specific Celtic attributes) has sharply grown. The cult of the Hero ( Lugh ), supported in parallel accrued and at the Roman domination. The big value of Lugh as the patron of sacred royal authority had and in Ireland where long time there were independent kingdoms. Thus till 6 c. A.D. the authority of priests was not subverted and the Irish embodiment of the God of Earth Powers ( Dahghda ) was one of central in a pantheon.
This triptych represents a reconstraction of Celt (Gaulish) mythology in terms of Gundestrup claudron mythological images interpretation what were suggested by J. J. Hatt and my scientyfic ideas.
Taranis and Cernunnos. (A. Fantalov. 2000).
The picture shows a fighting between thundergod Taranis and god of earth powers Cernunnos. This plots is in the various Indo-European traditions: Perkunas and Vels (Balt mythology); Perun and Veles (Slav mythology); Indra and Vala (Indian mythology). Staghorned Cernunnos is shown in his typical pose with crossed legs. His torso winded round by ramheaded serpent (it is Cernunnos's symbol). A stag and a bull are his symbols also.On this picture Cernunnos has got a resemblance with Rudra/Shiva of Indian mythology. Celt priests - Druids take Cernunnos's side. Taranis (this name like Thor of Scandinavian mythology). Taranis (this name like Thor of Scandinavian mythology) keeps a wheel in his hand. The wheel symbolises a thunderbolt. beast are assistent of the god of thunder. Beside we can see Lugh - a Celt divinity hero.
The exploit of Hero. (A. Fantalov. 2000).
The divinity hero defends the Great Goddess. He is fighting against the terrible dogs sent by infuriated Taranis. The Indo-European traditions suggest numerous examples of fighting between The Hero and wolf: Heracles against Cerber (Greek mythology); Odin and Fenrir wolf (Scandinavian mythology); Guya-Martan and wolf-warrior and wolf-warrior (Zoroastrianism mythology).
The God of Sky and the Hero. (A. Fantalov. 2000).
The picture shows plot, that is represented on the plaque of Gundestrup claudron. On the first plane we can see The Hero. There he has got some traces of Lugh and Oghma. As soon Oghma he is shown with chains. These chains connect his tang with hears of Celt people. Therefore we can i n tend, that Oghma like Odin of Scandinavian mythology and Varuna of Indian mythology. In terms of Celt tradition we also know that Oghma created sacral letters Ogam (Scandinavian mythology named Odin as an investigator of runes). The bull symbolised the Go d of Natural Powers. We can see also Celt God of Sky - Teutates. He has got a war and judge functions. His war weapon was a sword; sacral animal was a boar. Indo-European traditions know many characters, which belong to the type Sky god: Tyr of Scandinavia n mythology, Zeus of Greek mythology, Tin of Etruscian mythology, Dievas of Balt mythology, Dyaus of Indian mythology. The Hero and Teutates are forwarding the warrior to defend of the Great Goddess.
