Lots
of people in our world spend bucket loads of money in looking after their
physical appearance. Gym membership,
cosmetic surgery, the latest diet, the car they drive, and maybe for you it is
what clothes you wear. There
are some people who spend their whole lives trying not to get old and trying to
maintain their youth. People are on
a quest to remain young and live forever! Walt
Disney is in a freezer holding out hoping that someone will work out how he can
live forever…
In
Ecclesiastes, a book of the Bible, it says that God has “set eternity in the
hearts” of people. We all have
some sense of eternity and all want to live for eternity.
We all want to live forever!
Although…
there’s a problem…
the Bible says that we have all fallen short of the way we ought to have lived.
Therefore, we cannot on our own live for eternity.
When people first rejected God, death came into the world.
And as you look around you’ll notice that people still die.
We can’t avoid it. Everyone
will die. But the good news is that
the Bible holds out that we CAN have eternal life.
“Whoever believes in the Son has
eternal life,
but
whoever rejects the Son will not see life,
for
God’s wrath remains on him.”
[John
JESUS. He is the “Son” spoken about in the above verse from the Bible. If you believe in Jesus the Bible says that you will have eternal life. Even though you die in this life you will be raised up for life forever with him.
When
it says believe it doesn’t just mean say the words “I believe”.
To believe means to trust in Jesus and rely upon what he done for you.
Jesus died in the place of people like you and me to take for us the
punishment that we deserve. The
above verse says that if you believe [trust] in Jesus you will have
eternal life. This is great
news!
In
the end there are only 2 ways that we can respond to Jesus.
We can TRUST HIM or REJECT HIM. The
fantastic news is that if we do trust him we will LIVE 4EVA.
